Practice —
Marilena Georgantzi (b.1987, Athens) is an art director working across theatre and cinema and visual artist. Her practice explores the activation of personal and collective memory — rethinking history as artistic storytelling, a layered system where traces of water, earth strata and human actions intertwine.
Her work often takes the form of soft environments created through textile manipulation and printmaking, evoking dense palimpsests, cartographies, and fragmented writings. Marilena has been selected for residencies, artistic and curatorial proposals by renowned institutions and festivals and as a tutor in collective experiences where the importance of women’s often invisible labor and traditional crafts is highlighted ex. All our Horses Duo Show, Cypher Athens 2024, Halle 14, Leipzig, 2023, Centre for Circular Design, UAL, 2022. She has published essays on world-making and the immersive, Dionysian aspect of sound in video games ex. Ambiances Conference, 2020. Marilena’s set design portfolio includes productions like PLAZA (Leipzig Tanztheater, Schauspiel Leipzig, 2024), Teardrop (Stereo Nero Dance Co., supported by the Ministry of Culture, 2023), and 442 or a Game Without a Score (Stereo Nero Dance Co., Onassis Stegi Young Choreographers Festival, 2021; part of Greece’s participation in the Prague Quadrennial, 2023).
